James Martin IEng, MIET, AMSLL

Senior Building Services Engineer, East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

James started his career as an Electrician before progressing into design based roles initially at a small family run consultancy and then to his current role at East Riding of Yorkshire Council in 2017.

East Riding Council is responsible for a large number of corporate properties ranging from Offices, Schools, Leisure Facilities and Healthcare settings. Within his role James is responsible for Electrical designs for new developments alongside renovations and refurbishments of existing sites. Working in local government James has realized the importance of ongoing maintenance and the impact decisions made in the design and product specification process  have on the day to day running and maintenance of properties.

James has developed a passion for lighting design within this role, focusing designs around the site users with the ultimate goal of benefitting and improving learning, living and working conditions through the use of lighting.

James and his colleagues within the Council have realized the importance of circular economy and remanufacturing within lighting as the Authority battles the fluorescent lamp phase out alongside the same budget and operational pressures that impact many public sector organizations.
