Ali Kay

Director and Head of Development at Stoane lighting

Ali is a product designer and engineer with a passion for problem solving, all things technical and driving the sustainability agenda. On top of his day job as Director and Head of Development at Stoane Lighting, he is Vice Chair of the LIA Technical Committee Sustainability, and a member of LightingEurope Working Group Sustainability and its Task Forces PEP Ecopassport and Long Service Life. Ali has been managing our KTP project between Edinburgh Napier University and Stoane Lighting looking at developing and embedding Life Cycle Assessment of luminaires. Recently he has supported the development of CIBSE’s TM66 CEAM-Make tool, the LIA/CIBSE TM66 Assured Product Certification Scheme and CIBSE’s TM65.2 Lighting. Within LightingEurope, he has contributed to the revision of PEP Ecopassport PSR14 (LCA product specific rules for luminaires) and exploratory work on repairability scoring methodology. In all of these initiatives, the motivation has been to advance the use of metrics to quantify impact and circular performance of products, to push towards harmonised approaches and to use learning to make informed product design and process improvements at Stoane Lighting. When not at work you will find Ali happiest with family, out on his bike, on the water or building a boat.
