Mark Shortland

Co-Founder, Shoplight

Mark has been in the retail lighting sector for 25 years in management roles and, in 2014, co-founded Shoplight, a retail lighting specialist based in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

Having developed a client base of some of the World’s most well-known brands since inception, Shoplight have become market leaders in delivering innovation through service and supply their products to over 50 retailers.

Becoming a Certified B-Corporation in 2022, the company is committed to supporting all stakeholders in their business, including employees, local community, and the environment. It was this commitment that encouraged Shoplight to investigate the use of biopolymers and the company are now delivering true-innovation, with an increasingly diverse range of 3D-printed, UK made products from biopolymers. These products dramatically reduce the carbon emissions through manufacture and transport when compared to imported aluminium alternatives and it’s these products that are supported by the company’s Circu-Light initiative, which includes a unique ‘buy-back’ commitment. This allows Shoplight’s customers the ability to return their purchased biopolymer products to the company at any time for a partial credit towards new biopolymer fixtures, with up to 86% of the old fixture being recycled and re-used.

Mark and Shoplight believe the lighting industry needs to be accountable for its own products and waste and are leading the way with initiatives to ensure it’s products do as little environmental harm as possible.
