Marci Song
Marci Song is the Founding Director of SEAM Design, the award-winning international lighting design practice she established in 2009.
With a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and more than 20 years’ experience in specialist lighting design, Marci brings an architectural approach to light, working across residential, cultural and hospitality environments, public infrastructure and the wider urban realm.
Her work is particularly concerned with the relationship between light, architecture and urban identity, and with how lighting can respond to the cultural and social context of place. She is also interested in the responsibility of lighting designers to advance more considered approaches to longevity, resource use, reuse and circularity within the built environment in relation to design practice and the transition towards a circular economy.
From an early career in New York to more than two decades in London, Marci’s work has developed through an international perspective; today SEAM operates from studios in London and Bangkok, with projects across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the US.
Alongside her studio work, she maintains a particular interest in design pedagogy and in integrating lighting more fully into architectural education and practice. She has contributed as an invited critic, tutor and lecturer at the Architectural Association, University of Westminster and Central Saint Martins.
A mentor for the Silhouette Awards Class of 2022, she remains an active supporter and contributor to the programme.
